Olive Oil! Interactive Workshop & Tasting
Slow Food East Bay is delighted to have local olive oil experts Roberta Klugman, Nancy Ash and Kathryn Tomajan joining us on Saturday April 1st for an interactive Olive Oil Workshop at Port Kitchens, in the Port Workspaces on 20th Street in downtown Oakland.
Our three fearless leaders for the afternoon have milled & blended, imported & exported, tasted & judged olive oil the world over and it’s a rare opportunity to have their wealth of knowledge all together in one room. Trust us, this is sure to be an amazing learning experience and seats will sell out!
During the course of the afternoon, we will taste five oils paired with foods chosen to bring out the nuances of both the oil’s and food’s flavors. As we taste, we’ll learn about growing and production methods and varietal differences and get recommendations on selecting, using and storing oils. In addition, they will address the fraud and mislabeling prevalent in the world of imported olive oils and what policies are being created to manage the problem. There will be plentiful time for questions.
The workshop will be from 2:30 to 5:00pm and tickets are $60. All proceeds from this event go to benefit Slow Food East Bay and their support of organizations, farms and food entrepreneurs doing the work of bringing Good Clean and Fair food to the East Bay. We are grateful for the donation of time from our presenters and product from the various olive oil producers.
