Gobble Gobble! Sources for your Heritage Turkey

Wow, did Thanksgiving sneak up on you the way it has on us?  All of sudden, it’s November.  Tomatoes are trailing, apples are in and Annabelle at La Tercera has Potimarron! Despite the 80º in the East Bay the other day, Tahoe already has snow – and yikes! Thanksgiving almost a week earlier than normal this year!

You prepare your bevy of dishes for the table, we thought we’d throw out some help on the turkey front.  Below is a short list of places near & far, at farmers markets, stores and online, where you can still find a wonderful Heritage Breed gobbler for your centerpiece.  Why spring for heritage and free range?  Reasons are plentiful, ranging from the environment, the health & wellbeing of the animals to, of course, the taste!  CUESA said it all quite well HERE.

Oh, and Ted at Highland Hills reports that he’s already sold out of his lovely pasture raised Bourbon Reds, but if you’ve never had his sausage, we would recommend checking him out at the Berkeley farmers markets and trying some chipotle cheddar boar sausage for your stuffing… (The Local Butcher and Star Meats also have sausage on offer, and amazing stock, too!)  But before we get too deep into it, we’ll let you get back to the kitchen.
