February 13, 2025: SFEB Potluck “Climate & Food”

For our first potluck of 2025, we explored a timely and pressing topic: climate change.

As the recent fires in LA reminds us, we are in an era where we must seriously contend with the reality of the climate crisis. The food system offers countless opportunities to consider our climate impact, and we were excited to have guests from Climate Farm School join us. This organization partners with regenerative farms to lead experiential learning sessions, helping participants discover their role in shaping a more sustainable food system.

As everyone prepared their dishes for this potluck, we invited them to reflect on the question: What is climate-friendly cuisine? Participants interpreted this question creatively—drawing inspiration from the growing genre of climate cookbooks or sustainable food sourcing. Local, seasonal, and plant-based food choices were key topics as we explored how they factor into climate-conscious cooking. We were thrilled to taste the dishes that represented diverse ideas on climate-conscious cuisine and engage in meaningful conversation!

NOTE: We gathered at a new location for this potluck—Ramen Shop’s Side Bar! They kindly offered to host us, and drinks were available to order.

Full potluck guidelines are always available here.
