November 10th: Grains Festival!
Time: 12noon to 3pm
Location: St George Spirits in Alameda
Join Slow Food East Bay for an afternoon of delicious eats and good fun learning about the wide ranging and diverse GRAINS in our food system!
We're gathering at St George Spirits in Alameda for the afternoon of Sunday, November 10th in order to explore the world of heritage grains through the cultural and place-based food lens of seven East Bay chefs - Nafy Flatley of Teranga Foods, Rahul Hari, Manny of Bolita Masa, Cafe Colucci, Loren of Basecamp Bakery, Marlene of Tsiri and a team all hailing from rice culture. Get excited for millet and teff and fonio and wheat and rice and corn and amaranth, oh my!
In addition, there will be opportunities to learn (and buy!) from representatives from grain growers and millers and advocacy groups like Farmer Mai Nguyen, Bob Klein from Community Grains, David from Capay Mills, Wendy from Luna Koshihikari Rice and Tim from Admiral Maltings. Firebrand Bakery and Honore Mills will have special breads and pastries for sale (and Honore will be demonstrating their mobile grain mill!). And you can add on tours of the St George manufactury and Admiral Maltings too.
And all of this while sipping on delicious beer and whiskey (grains-based beverages, see what we did there?) from our partners St George Spirits, Almanac Beer Co, and Faction Brewing.
Please note:
Ticket price includes tasting dishes from seven chefs, educational panels and Admiral Malting tours only, all drinks for sale separately in addition to goods from our vendors.
Our chefs are preparing only enough dishes for the tickets sold and we want to be sure that food is enjoyed and consumed.
Given that, children under 8 are free, everyone over the age of 8 should have a ticket. Thank you for understanding.
Well behaved dogs are welcome!
