May 9, 2024: SFEB Potluck “From the Sea”
In honor of Slow Food East Bay kicking off a year of deep diving into fish, fisheries and the ocean ecosystem, our May potluck celebrated seafood, seaweed, salt, and the other bounties of the ocean!
Our theme for the evening was "From The Sea" – however attendees chose to define it. Whether it was sea vegetables, tinned mussels, fish cakes, or land-based foods with a mermaid-inspired twist, the potluck gave everyone an opportunity to think about our local food system from an oceanic perspective.
We were joined by Adam Sewall and Eleza Jaeger of Gatherer Outfitters, a charter fishing company based out of the Berkeley Marina. They shared their experience with commercial fishing and taking guests out to catch their own dinner. It was also a chance to hear about their creative response to the challenges posed by school shutdowns during the depth of COVID.
This gathering helped set the stage for future Slow Food East Bay events that will continue to explore and expand on this important conversation about our oceans, fisheries, and the food they provide.
